lotta per sopravvivere: la foca monaca del Mediterraneo (<i>Monachus monachus<\/i>). Con meno di 1000 esemplari rimasti, \u00e8 uno dei mammiferi marini pi\u00f9 minacciati al mondo \u2014 e oltre la met\u00e0 vive in Grecia.<br \/>Queste foche schive si rifugiano in grotte marine tranquille per riposare, partorire ed accudire i piccoli. Ma in estate, questi stessi luoghi diventano spesso mete turistiche molto frequentate \u2014 ed \u00e8 da qui che parte la nostra class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Il nome &#8220;foca monaca&#8221; deriva dal greco monachos, che significa &#8220;monaco&#8221;, in riferimento alle pieghe della pelle sul collo che ricordano un cappuccio. Descritta per la prima volta nel 1779, questa specie abita il Mediterraneo da migliaia di anni.<br \/>Gli adulti possono raggiungere i 2,8 metri di lunghezza e pesare fino a 300 kg. Sono ottimi nuotatori e cacciatori di polpi, calamari e pesci fino a 200 metri di profondit\u00e0, restando in apnea oltre 10 minuti. Nonostante ci\u00f2, sono estremamente vulnerabili \u2014 soprattutto in fase di riproduzione. Questi luoghi sono essenziali per la loro sopravvivenza \u2014 ma solo se non disturbati.<br \/>Oggi molte grotte in Grecia sono considerate ancora attive. Per essere sicure, devono restare isolate, silenziose, senza traffico nautico n\u00e9 luci artificiali.
