Eco-friendly Sailing

25 January 2019

Yes, we know, we are going on and on with all these issues concerning the preservation of the environment, but our idea is to fully integrate you into these practices and prove to you that it is a genuine challenge for the captains of ships.

As a community coastal guide, Navily should present you with the best methods to adopt in order to sail in an eco-friendly manner! Yes, we know this word has great hype, we like to use it well but this simply means that it would be much better to add an environmental dimension to our sailing! We therefore have set out for a review of these of these practices to be implemented by the responsible captains.

Landmarks

The Blue Flag label promotes environmentally friendly marinas. For them, marina environmental protection is a priority. These small blue flags can therefore help you when sailing, to choose more responsible ports. If you would like more information regarding this matter, here it is !

Anemos is the only transport label in the world which guarantees a CO2-efficient navigation thanks to the value of sailing boats which allow you to find all the information you need on the trips you have made. This also enables saving fossil fuels and preserving the climate with carbon-free transport. So you too, don’t wait any longer and try ANEMOS products in their shop !

An organization that wants to promote innovation in eco-navigation. Their role is to also test these innovations in order to protect the marine environment and to encourage the good practices in the maritime and river activities !

In the ports

💧Unfortunately, water will stop flowing soon! We therefore are trying to limit our consumption as much as possible and for that we have several alternatives: you can use small devices like flow restrictors or water stop’s which are small in size, but they enable huge savings! We also thinking of collecting rain water to wash your boat or rinse your equipment !

🗑Now let’s tackle the heart of the matter: waste! Yes we know, a bottle or a straw can easily fly away, but when you know the extent of the damage that this can cause, we must do everything in our power to avoid this! Try to place heavy objects systematically to prevent them from flying away for example. And for sorting in ports, let’s keep the specific use of each site in mind: for example, don’t empty your wasted water anywhere else ! 😈

During the mooring period

What makes a mooring appreciated or not is largely due to the environment in which it is located, so if we don’t pay attention to it, we could be the cause of the loss of these beautiful spots that we love so much! So in order to avoid this, we prefer mooring areas based on the bottom of the sea and drop our anchor on a lighter-coloured area of sand.

We also try to have enough chain length to lift the anchor in line with the boat.

Fair winds,
